This Privacy Policy describes how Old Salty, operated by GJH Digital, handles information when you use the Old Salty mobile application, website, and related services.
Information We Collect
Old Salty is designed to provide boating, nautical, weather, tide, and related information without requiring customers to create an Old Salty account.
The app may access certain information from your device when necessary to provide its features.
Location Information
Old Salty may request permission to access your device’s location.
Your location is used to provide location-based features, including local weather conditions, NOAA weather forecasts and alerts, nearby tide stations, tide predictions, and other location-based boating information.
Old Salty does not require continuous background location tracking.
You may disable location access at any time through your device settings. Some weather and tide features may not function properly without location access.
In-App Purchases
Old Salty may offer an optional one-time purchase called Old Salty Pro.
Purchases are processed by the platform from which you obtained the app, such as the Apple App Store or Google Play.
GJH Digital and Old Salty do not directly collect or store your credit card, debit card, or other payment information.
Apple or Google may provide the app with information necessary to determine whether an Old Salty Pro purchase has been completed or previously purchased.
Payment information and transactions are subject to the privacy policies and terms of the applicable app store.
Old Salty Pro
Old Salty Pro may provide additional features including extended tide predictions, NOAA weather alerts, Captain’s Log, Float Plan, departure checklists, and other boating tools.
Old Salty Pro is offered as a one-time in-app purchase and does not require an Old Salty customer account.
Captain’s Log, Float Plans, and Checklists
Old Salty Pro may allow you to create Captain’s Log entries, float plans, and boating checklists.
Information entered into these features may be stored locally on your device.
When Old Salty provides an option to share information, you choose whether to share it and which application, service, or recipient receives it.
Old Salty does not automatically share your Captain’s Log entries, float plans, or checklists with other users.
Staff and Administrative Access
Old Salty contains functionality that may allow authorized staff or administrators to access restricted administrative features.
When an authorized staff member uses this functionality, login and authorization information may be transmitted to the Old Salty website for authentication and to determine whether the account has authorized access.
Regular Old Salty customers do not need a WordPress or Old Salty account to use the app or purchase Old Salty Pro.
Weather, Tide, and NOAA Services
Old Salty uses third-party data services to provide weather, tide, marine, and related information.
These services may include the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Weather Service.
Old Salty may use your device’s location to request relevant weather forecasts, observations, alerts, tide predictions, and nearby tide station information from these services.
Use of information provided by third-party services may also be subject to the privacy policies and terms of those services.
Apple App Store
If you use Old Salty on an Apple device, purchases may be processed by Apple through the App Store.
Apple may process information associated with your purchase and provide Old Salty with information necessary to verify or restore your purchase.
Old Salty does not receive your full payment card information from Apple.
Google Play
If you use Old Salty on an Android device, purchases may be processed by Google through Google Play.
Google may process information associated with your purchase and provide Old Salty with information necessary to verify or restore your purchase.
Old Salty does not receive your full payment card information from Google.
Amazon and Affiliate Links
Old Salty may display boating gear, equipment, accessories, or other products that link to Amazon or other third-party retailers.
Some links may be affiliate links. If you follow an affiliate link and make a qualifying purchase, GJH Digital may receive a commission at no additional cost to you.
When you follow a link to a third-party website or application, that third party’s privacy policy and terms apply.
Old Salty and GJH Digital are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party websites, applications, or services.
Device Permissions
Depending on the features you use, Old Salty may request device permissions such as location access.
Permissions are requested when needed to provide app functionality.
You can review, allow, deny, or change app permissions through the settings on your Apple or Android device.
Disabling certain permissions may prevent some Old Salty features from functioning correctly.
Local Data Storage
Old Salty may store certain information locally on your device, including app preferences, cached nautical information, Captain’s Log entries, float plans, checklists, and other information necessary to provide app functionality.
Locally stored information generally remains on your device until it is removed through the app, cleared through your device settings, or removed when application data is deleted, subject to the behavior of your device’s operating system.
Data Security
We use reasonable measures designed to protect information handled by Old Salty and its related services.
However, no electronic storage system, Internet transmission, or method of electronic communication can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Children’s Privacy
Old Salty is a general boating and nautical information application and is not specifically directed toward children under the age of 13.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that personal information from a child under 13 has been collected improperly, we will take reasonable steps to remove it.
Marine and Weather Information
Weather forecasts, tide predictions, weather alerts, and other marine information displayed by Old Salty may originate from NOAA, the National Weather Service, or other third-party data providers.
This information is provided for informational purposes only.
Old Salty should not be used as a substitute for official marine forecasts, navigation equipment, emergency services, safety procedures, Coast Guard guidance, or instructions from appropriate authorities.
Weather and marine conditions can change rapidly. Users are responsible for evaluating current conditions, maintaining appropriate safety equipment, following applicable laws and regulations, and making their own boating and navigation decisions.
Your Choices
You can control certain information and permissions used by Old Salty through your device settings.
You may:
- Allow or deny location access.
- Change previously granted app permissions.
- Choose whether to purchase Old Salty Pro.
- Choose whether to share information from Captain’s Log or other app features.
- Remove locally stored information where the app provides that capability.
- Delete the application and its locally stored data, subject to your device’s operating system and backup settings.
Third-Party Websites and Services
Old Salty may contain links to websites, applications, products, or services operated by third parties.
We are not responsible for the content, security, privacy practices, or policies of third-party services. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any third-party service you use.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to Old Salty, its features, third-party services, or applicable requirements.
When this Privacy Policy is updated, the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page will be revised.
